Safety Planning: the what and the how
Becky Temple-Purcell, Assistant Director of Nursing MH&LD
As a proud mental health nurse, I am passionate about making a difference in the lives of those I support. No two days are ever the same in this field and that constant challenge drives me to learn something new everyday. I firmly believe that the heart of nursing lies in building meaningful connections – whether in a clinical setting or through professional collaboration. These connections are essential in providing compassionate, effective care, and they are what motivate me to continue growing and making an impact in my role.
I have a broad career spanning a variety of clinical settings, organisations and workforce development roles across the West Midalnds, England. In 2023 I was appointed as Assistant Director of Nursing for Mental Health and Learning Disabilities in Hywel Dda University Health Board and worked as Deputy Chief Nurse in the Black Country prior to this. Bringing a wealth of experience to a new healthcare system has been a rejuvenating and enriching challenge and I have gained valuable insights along the way.
I value being part of the All Wales Senior Nurse Advisory Group for Mental Health and am currently leading the ‘Relational Safety’ workstream within the All Wales Patient Safety Programme for mental health.
I have a strong interest in culture and leadership and its impact on care which has led to my involvement in programmes of leadership development. Since arriving in Wales I have supported the Student Leadership Academy at Swansea University and am involved in Mentoring with the All Wales Mental Health Team Managers programme.
