Responding to self-harm in young adults aged 16-25

Ian Munton

Ian Munton is the Director of Student Journey at Aberystwyth University. Ian has worked in roles ranging from Student Adviser to Director over a 20 year period with roles at Staffordshire University, Keele University and the University of Sheffield before moving to Mid Wales.

Ian leads a number of services including Student Wellbeing, Accessibility and Inclusion, Anti-Harassment and Violence, Careers and Employability and Library Services. In addition, Ian is the Safeguarding and Prevent lead for the University and has responsibility for a range of cross-institution priorities relating to the student journey.

Ian is an Executive Director for AMOSSHE – The Student Services Organisation and has contributed to sector work, particularly in relation to Sexual Violence and Misconduct, Mental Health and Student Transitions.

David Heald

David Heald is the National Manager for Wales for PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide. He has worked in the field of youth work for over thirty years, having started his career in Further Education and then training those out of school. After working in well-being and youth volunteering, David joined PAPYRUS in 2019 to develop the community-based work of the charity in Wales. It has since expanded to four centres across the country and a dedicated Welsh staff team providing support, information and training around suicide prevention through the media of both Welsh and English. He has pioneered the link between the third sector and universities which has led to the collaboration with Aberystwyth university being discussed in today’s workshop.
